Covid-19 pandemic is gaining momentum. Many of us were locked in our own houses, covered with buckwheat and toilet paper, quickly figured out how the respirator FFP1 differs from FFP3, and try not to leave the house once again. From all sides, the headings of the news shout about how the virus destroys our usual world. But you know what? In history, you can find a bunch of diseases and worse. And in games – all the more.

We present you a selection of the most terrible and destructive epidemics in video games. And if anxiety does not allow you to sleep calmly, we advise you to launch any project from the list below and make sure that today things are not so bad.

White chlorine syndrome. Nier

All problems in the Nier universe began when magic penetrated from parallel reality there. In 2003, the heavens opened over Tokyo, and a giant white creature fell on the city, after which a real dragon dived from the clouds. As a result of a difficult battle, the dragon destroyed the giant, after which the brave Japanese Air Force shot a winged alien.

It would seem that everything will be limited to destroyed buildings and several dozens of dead, but no. Six months later, in the Sinjuku area, where guests from another world collapsed, outbreaks of the disease began, which was called the "white chlorinic syndrome". She turned the cells of the human body into sodium chloride (or simply salt) until a person crumbles with a bunch of white crystals. At first, mortality reached 100%. Then some infected ones began to survive, but to show uncontrolled aggression. The disease was transmitted primarily through liquid discharge: if, for example, the infected pouting nearby and particles of his saliva came to you – you are a corpse.

To stop the epidemic, the government isolated Shinjuk, protecting the area from the rest of the city with a high wall. This did not help: four years later the infected were pierced by the wall and poured out, killing everyone in their path and rapidly spreading the disease. The army of infected people was called a legion, and after a couple of years of a bloody war, they dealt with it radically – nuclear bombs. Needless to say, they turned the country of the rising sun into a scorched desert?

But that's not all. Ironically of fate, it was radioactive precipitation that helped to smash the syndrome of white chlorination around the world. Only then did scientists find out that the disease causes particles from another world that remained after the death of the White Giant – and they are completely invulnerable to nuclear attacks. All this ended quite sadly: at the time of the start of the game, humanity is on the verge of complete extermination.

In fact, about the Nier universe, the epidemic of white chlorination and its consequences can be written a separate text, but it is better to see them with your own eyes. Fortunately, Remaster has recently been announced, which can be played on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Black Death. A Plague Tale: Innocence

In the games, the plague was used more than once, but almost everywhere the scriptwriters mixed a fantastic element for a real disease, making it even worse.

In A Plague Tale, the story unfolds against the background of the most famous pandemic plague: a black death that came in the XIV century and killed tens of millions of people. In the game, the inhabitants of France are threatened not only by the Bubon Plague, but also by the Hordes of rats caused by a mysterious curse. The rodents here are attacked by whole avalanches, gather in the “rat -highs” and even cause earthquakes. As a result, we get grandiose destruction, mountains of corpses and frightened to half -death surviving. The main character will have to make your way through the empty streets of once flowering cities and villages, and also to face the fear of the inhabitants who are ready to burn people alive, just to prevent new infectations.

Rat plague. Dishonored

In Dishonored, the inhabitants of the city of Danwall also mows the plague, but its symptoms differ from those described by real medicine. The local "rat" plague affects the lungs and the brain, bleaches the skin, causes baldness and severe weight loss. The infected people come in a cough every now and then, and as the disease develops, they lose their minds and turn into aggressive somnambul. In the latest stages, they have bloody tears, which is why hopeless patients were nicknamed the "posters".

And this disease did not just dig up tens of thousands of people. Danuall was the capital of the empire, its pearl, the main economic, industrial and cultural center of the state. When strict quarantine was introduced in it, cutting the city from the rest of the world, the whole country suffered. And the inhabitants of Danuall were left alone with the plague and flocks of bloodthirsty rats, capable of giving up a person to bones in a second. Add to this still approaching hunger and death of all the beloved empress, which replaced the despising Lord Regent. Of course, the picture is impressive, but I want to watch it exclusively from the outside.

The plague of the whip. Warcraft III

The heroes of Warcraft III had to fight the plague. True, here the nature of the disease is already frankly magical. All troubles began with the fact that in the Kingdom of Lorderon, the undead came from where. Prince Artas decided to find out what the reason was, and the results of the investigation did not please him.

The fault was Necromancer Kel’tuzad, who brought out a special kind of plague: this disease not only killed people, but turned them into a zombie. The dark magician experimented with a strain for a long time to make it deadly and secretive. For the time being, the plague crawled around the country imperceptibly, showing itself only with heat and headache – and then thousands of Lordserians in an instant became walking dead. Trying to stop the spread of the disease, Prince Artas ordered to cut an entire city with still living people. It remains only to rejoice that in our world such an infection simply cannot appear.

Spaniard. Vampyr

Vampyr transfers us to London in 1918, where the Spanish flu is rampant – and this is another example of how fantastic assumptions are mixed with brutal reality. During the First World War from Spanish, more than 50 million people died. The disease struck the lungs and, in the worst situation, ended with lightning pneumonia. The dying literally choked with their own blood, and young people often became the victims of influenza.

In these decorations, the story of Dr. Jonathan Reed, who is turned into a vampire at the beginning of the game, unfolds. The foggy London embraced by the disease is an already gloomy place, and when evil spirits are walking around his streets, it becomes completely sad. So Reed must fulfill his medical duty and treat patients – at least then, so that their blood becomes tastier and healthier. And although Reed can succumb to a thirst for blood and bite everyone in a row, the city in this case will quickly fill the monsters, and this will pretty complicate the hero life. It is better to limit yourself to rats.

Ash blood. Bloodborne

Once the city of Yarne was famous for its healers, who promised to cure almost any disease with the help of ritual transfusion of special blood. Only later it turned out that transfusion caused another disease, much more terrible – “ashen blood”, which turns people into terrible monsters. By the beginning of the game, entire areas of Yarnaam are infected, isolated, burned or wait for burning, and hunters for monsters are growling through the streets.

The symptoms of the disease are known about the symptoms of the disease: Hidestaki projects Miyazaki are not particularly generous for details and details. Ash blood at first is easy to confuse with poisoning, but the antidote brings only temporary relief. The infection is transmitted with various discharge of the human body, which also become poisonous. It is not surprising that ash blood quickly spread throughout the city, very similar to Victorian London with its dirty streets and crowded sewage.

Sand ulcer. Mor. Utopia

All projects of the studio Ice-Pick Lodge deeply metaphorical, but for the sandy ulcers prescribed quite understandable symptoms and methods of distribution. The horrors of the deadly epidemic depicted extremely realistically: this disease, similar to a real anthrax ulcer, almost underwent the inhabitants of the steppe town on the Gorkhon River almost under the root. "Riddle" is transmitted in physical contact and airborne droplets; patients are in a fever, they are tormented by a wild headache, and sometimes hallucinations. Mortality reaches almost one hundred percent, and without treatment, infected people die in a matter of hours.

When the gerbil broke out in the city for the first time, the disease was able to localize the disease, blocking the quarter with infected. A considerable contribution was made by the healer Isidor Burah with his students: they made tinctures that increase immunity to the hunger. However, later the gerbil fell on the steppes again, and this time was merciless. The whole city was infected in just a few days. The quarantine cut it off from the outside world, because of which a lack of food began, and the prices for the rest took off to heaven. The city water supply was destroyed, as the inhabitants were afraid that bacteria live in river water. People were rapidly dying in the isolated areas, and soon there were only looters who searched the empty houses. If you do not find a cure for the disease, the city is doomed: in order to prevent the spread of the gerbil, the military will only have to burn it with all the infected. Whether it will happen or not – it depends on the player.

Virus "Black Light". Series Prototype

This disease was born as a biological weapon, although initially scientists worked on it with good intentions. They wanted to create a virus that will eat useless genes of the human body and replace them with improved ones to make their carrier smarter, faster and stronger. "Black Light" makes the human body mutate, changing every cell in it. Most of the diseases do not withstand this process and dies, but the survivors acquire superhuman abilities … and external ugliness. It is easiest to get sick when in contact with infected or through infected fluids.

When the Black Light broke out, Manhattan Island turned into a giant meat grinder: those who did not kill the virus killed mutants. The streets were filled with armored vehicles and military detachments who tried to cope with the infection and its creatures. In the first game, the disease was kept within the island, but in the second part it has already spread throughout New York. The virus was enough for 72 hours to load the city in a bloody chaos. New York had to be divided into zones: “red”, completely covered by the virus, “yellow”, where the survivors were in relative security, and “green”, where the military settled. And even if in the “green” on the streets you can meet mutants, then a walk along the “red” with a high degree of probability would be the last in your life.

Frick virus. Days Gone

Another case when people “finished off”: they created biological weapons, and then allowed its uncontrolled distribution. Infected in Days Gone is called "freaks", and they are easy to confuse them with zombies, only the freaks are still alive. The infection makes them stupid and very aggressive, but much more agile and stronger than ordinary people. Patients bald, their skin is covered with ulcers, and the main diet becomes human. It is curious that the virus affects not only people, but also animals: during the game, the hero will meet infected wolves, ravens and bears.

The local disease was enough for two years to fly around the globe and destroy modern civilization. The survivors went astray and began to live in shelters, leaving Fricice and bandits abandoned at home. Now on empty roads and destroyed cities only freaks roam – moral.

Cordycepts cerebral infection. The Last of Us

Local infection is curious that it is based on the actually existing CordyCeps Unilatralis fungus, which parasitizes on insects. Having penetrated the carrier into the body, the spores of the fungus germinate right in it until they affect the nervous system. After that, the victim becomes actually a “slave” of Cordyceps and forgets about his own needs, turning into a semblance of a zombie. Having taken as the basis this eerie phenomenon, the scriptwriters decided to go a little further – and imagined what would happen if Cordyceps muttered and began to parasitize in public. According to their version, it grew into a pandemic, which destroyed the civilized world and killed most of humanity.

The main action of the game unfolds twenty years after the first outbreak of infection. The devastated cities are slowly absorbing the forest, the few survivors are ready to kill each other for food and ammunition. Some do not disdain even cannibalism. During the game, you repeatedly ask the question of who is worse: the poor fellows, struck by Cordyceps, or people who themselves threw everything human for survival.

Dollar flu.The Division

“People die for metal,” Mephistopheles sang in the opera Guno, and the plot of The Division, this description is best suited. In this game, people die not even for metal, but from metal. Rather, from crispy pieces of paper that have long been replaced by a sonorous coin.

One too ideological virologist decided that the planet would be better without people, so that he has improved the strain of smallpox, and then applied https://sister-site.org/monopoly-casino/ it to dollar banknotes. Leaving infected bills in stores on Black Friday, he achieved a lightning -fast outbreak of illness. The epidemic destroyed the government and in three weeks brought the United States to complete anarchy, chaos and devastation. Cities were divided among themselves by criminal groups, which for the sake of survival are ready to gnaw throats not only to each other, but also to everyone who will turn to the arm. The culprit of the celebration was nicknamed “green poison” or “dollar flu” – and this is the rare case when happiness is certainly not in money.

T-Virus.Series Resident Evil

Well, where without the gold classics of game epidemics? This, of course, is about the intrigues of the ominous corporation of Ambrell, which developed a bioorganic weapon. The purpose of the Tiran project, in honor of which the virus got its name, was to create deadly super -soldiers. The infection causes mutations in the body, the result of which depends on the carrier and subtype of the virus. Most often, the disease kills a person in a couple of days, after which he raises his aggressive zombies. And even if the virus fell into your blood only before death, you will still stand the walking dead – stupid, but extremely tenacious. Not only people can be infected, but also animals, insects (what about being killed by a giant mole?) and even plants.

Naturally, all this did not end with good. In the secret laboratory of Ambrell, a leak occurred, the rats spent the virus around the city of Rakkun City, and soon zombies flooded the streets. In order to prevent infection of the whole country, the government made the only possible decision – to drop a nuclear bomb on the city. And although this prevented the pandemic, the epidemic in Raccun City remains one of the most terrible video games in the history.

In our turbulent time, it is important to remember that people experienced troubles and heavier – that in games, in reality. The main thing is to take care of yourself and your loved ones, wash your hands and shorten the self -isolation with good games.
